105

  • Warnings and alerts

The Be Ready power cuts page says to write down the phone number to report a power cut, which is 105 in England, Scotland and Wales, and to save it in your mobile phone. Northern Ireland has a different number, given on the same page. Be Ready's main preparedness page repeats the advice in its section on making a household plan: write important numbers on paper and store them somewhere easy to find in a power cut, starting with the number to report one.

During a power cut, the page says to visit your local network operator's website to report the cut and track updates, and "if you're unable to report the power cut online, call 105 for free in England, Wales and Scotland". Both routes lead to the network operator for your area rather than the supplier you pay bills to; the Priority Services Register website describes the supplier as "the company you pay your bills to" and says network operators can be contacted 24 hours a day, every day, for updates during an interruption.

People with additional needs because of medical or personal circumstances can join the Priority Services Register, which the page calls a free service.

In practice

Save 105 in your phone and write it down on paper, as the Be Ready page advises.
